Cartagena is a tourist and cultural district. the city is located on the shores of the Caribbean sea. from its founding in the 16th century and during the Spanish colonial era, cartagena of indies was one of the most important ports in America. from this period comes most of its artistic and cultural heritage.

The 11 of november of 1811, cartagena declared independence from spain. this day is national holiday in colombia and in the city is celebrated for four days known as the "partys of independences"
